Fallen Hero Officer Jason B. Meyer, Grand Meadow MN Police Dept

Officer Jason B. Meyer

Grand Meadow MN Police Department

One of the pleasures of my Fallen Hero project is the opportunity to meet (or at least correspond with) some very nice people. Jason Meyer’s mother lives close by so she could come to my studio and pick up her painting of Jason. We had a wonderful visit and I asked her to tell me all about her son. We who have lost children never tire of talking about them. As a matter of fact we NEED to talk about them because they are forever a part of us.

Joyce told me that absolutely everyone liked Jason. He was just that kind of person…….warm, friendly and caring. The son of James and Joyce Meyer he was the second of four children. His older brother, Todd, sister, Jenny, and younger brother, Dustin, all miss him so, and Jason was a wonderful uncle to their children. She told me how he had built a beautiful playhouse for a niece that is still in use today. Being able to build and fix anything were among his talents. A favorite pastime was hunting with his brothers and cousins. He also loved football, fishing, camping (where he stoked big fires), and any and all family gatherings where he displayed his terrific sense of humor.

On the fateful night of his death Jason was on duty at the Grand Meadow Police Department when he had a call to assist another officer in Spring Valley. Halfway there that call was cancelled and another call came for assistance in Racine. Jason came around a curve and lost control of his vehicle. He died immediately after the crash. Several communities mourned the loss of this twenty eight-year-old protector of their citizens. I’m hopeful that this portrait of Jason will bring some comfort and peace to his family.
