CPL Caleb L. Erickson
December 1, 1993 – February 28, 2014 Caleb Erickson joined the United States Marine Corps immediately upon graduation from high school in 2012. Family members and friends in his home town of Waseca, MN recall Caleb’s positive attitude, and his love for country – with a deep desire to protect and serve. Caleb gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country on Friday, February 28, 2014, in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. While conducting combat operations his convoy was attacked by a suicide bomber. Caleb was a gunner riding in the last truck of the convoy when the attack happened. He was two months away from returning home. Caleb is survived by his parents, Karla Erickson of Waseca and Barry S. Erickson of Waseca; one sister, Ruebecca Erickson also of Waseca; his maternal grandparents; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. All remember his infectious smile “that could brighten anyone’s moods.” (Therefore I elected to paint Caleb with a warm, friendly smile!) The Caleb Erickson Memorial 5K Run/Walk takes place in the town of Waseca in September, with the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Waseca County Veteran’s Memorial.
