Fallen Hero MAJ Brent R. Taylor, United States Army

MAJ Brent R. Taylor

July 6, 1979 – November 3, 2018
United States Army

Major Brent Taylor of the Utah Nat’l Guard and acting mayor of North Ogden, Utah was killed in Afghanistan in 2018 during an insider attack. He was part of a U.S. Army unit training Afghan commandos when one of them deliberately fired several shots hitting Major Taylor in the back of the head. He had taken a year off from his duties as mayor to accept this, his fourth deployment. He loved his fellow American soldiers and the Afghan people.

There is not room here to adequately describe this hero. He was a devoted husband, father of seven children, beloved second-term mayor, missionary, humanitarian, scholar, student body president, Eagle Scout, and American patriot. He has been eulogized nationally by this country that he loved.

By all accounts Brent Taylor was extremely ambitious, spiritual, and kind to all. His wife Jennie, a nationally known motivational speaker has, along with her family, set up the Brent Taylor Foundation - through which his legacy of service, sacrifice, and statesmanship continues. Brent kept marching toward his goals. At the time of his death he was working on his Doctorate, and had a great passion for business and politics.

Brent often spoke about his three great loyalties in life - God, Family, and Country. To learn more about this great American hero just type in his name!

It was my honor to paint Major Brent Taylor’s portrait.
